villa noailles, 1923.

In 1923, Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles commissioned Robert Mallet-Stevens to build them a house in the hills above Hyères. It became one of the first modernist buildings in France, and the Noailles filled it with artists, parties, and the occasional film shoot. The pool sits inside the garden, surrounded by cubist concrete planters.

The art on this pair is a painting of that pool. Navy water, cream concrete, the red of the terrace, a single black palm.
